E-mail Productivity Tools for Gmail That Can Save You Time

too many emails on MondayMonday can be a pretty stressful day. If you’re like me, a typical Monday starts with you arriving at work, sitting down at your desk, turning on your computer and opening your e-mail application.

Before you can even enjoy your first sip of coffee, you realize that your inbox has been inundated with e-mails over the weekend. Your stress level automatically begins to rise as you filter through the messages and begin putting out fires. You can easily waste an entire Monday morning simply answering your e-mails. That’s why I’ve compiled this list of Gmail plug-ins that will help boost your e-mail productivity and bring some happiness to your Mondays.

Proactively managing your inbox is key to e-mail productivity (and your sanity). If you use Gmail like I do, there are some very good Gmail add-ons that can be installed.

Here’s some info on two popular time-saving Gmail add-ons:

1. Canned Responses

I use this Gmail add-on and it definitely saves me a ton of time. If you get repetitive e-mails or questions from clients and tend to respond with similar responses, you can save those responses and pull them up when needed. This avoids you thinking about what to write each time you get the same request and having to retype the e-mail response. Even if you type super fast, this will definitely save you time. In addition, it provides a common response that you can use as a base on which to elaborate and customize. It’s truly amazing on those days I get writer’s block or feel like procrastinating.

2. Boomerang

Boomerang is a pretty popular Gmail add-on. To be truthful, I haven’t personally tried it yet but know a lot of people that use it regularly. It basically allows you to schedule e-mails to be sent at a later date. So if you do not have time to write the e-mail during office hours, you can complete it before going to bed and schedule the e-mail to be sent early the next day. This is great because you may not want to send the e-mail at 11 PM at night or maybe you know that the intended recipient only looks at e-mails early in the morning.

If you do not use Gmail, do not fret! I know other e-mail programs have similar add-ons or features that can be utilized to speed up your e-mail response time. If you have any suggestions on how to manage your e-mail inbox better, I would love to hear from you. Please leave a comment below.
